Some Black Hills trails are just fun to drive. These trails are in a location or navigate an area that helps the rider get close to the beauty of the Black Hills natural environment. Majestic trees, flowing waters, rocky outcrops, and hidden treasures are what makes a Black Hills drive worth the effort.
There are old Ghost Town sites in this area, all with little evidence remaining, including; Diamond City Ghost Town, and the Nahant Ghost Town. The Silver City Ghost Town is still active.
Water features include; Gimlet Creek, Gimlet Creek Bridge Water Crossing, Trail 142 Multiple Water Crossings, North Fork Rapid Creek, and Tillson Creek.
The Spurgeon Gulch Hiking Trailhead for Trail #40 is located here.
Old buildings worth a stop and a photo are the Historic School House, and the Gorman Cabin. Another great picture to take is the “God Bless America Flag.”
This area is populated by a large number of 62″ width restrictive trails.
Parking is available at the Riley Hill Trailhead off Rochford Road, or the Merritt Trails parking.
