This is now a “former” trailhead that would take you into the Hill City mining district. It still has value though because old cabins, waterfalls, historic mines are all found on these Forest Service roads. The Forest Service no longer shows this trailhead on maps because of funding issues.
Staying in the Hill City area puts you center in the tourist mega, so you can drive one day and tourist another.
