Rockerville was a real mining camp. Gold was discovered in the Rockerville area in December 1876. In 1878 a 17-mile flume was constructed to bring water from Spring Creek.
In the summer of 2016, the remaining buildings from the old town was burned to the ground for safety reasons. Rockerville continues to be a destination for locals. Resent tourism efforts have been rekindled with a new restaurant and a lodge.
